Fanfest 2022 - Interview with Camille CCP Tara, location manager


Jol: First of all, for our readers, can you introduce yourself?

Camille: Of course! My name is Camille, " CCP Tara" and I take care of the location of the game for our 6 languages (note: Spanish joins the translated languages) and therefore French, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese And soon Spanish.

Jol: Lots of waiting for Spanish?

Camille: Clearly, we can't wait. We did a lot of research with the entire Spanish community, we are even bringing together a "Spanish Concil", a community of players to talk about the translation and see what their special expectations are for location.

They also help us to verify that our translations correspond well to the mind, as for what we had done for the French translation. We don't want to provide them with something that doesn't match what they already know. For example, if in their vocabulary they have words that are already commonly used, we will not translate them to create confusion. We did the same for the French translation via the forums, to have the opinion of the community and we changed full things to remain coherent.

Jol: for when is this new location planned?

Camille: A first draft in September with the tutorial, to have community feedback. Then at the end of 2022 for the rest, without precise date.

Jol: Could such a location change something at stake, could the Spanish community federate more effectively around this location, with really Spanish groups?

Camille: We hope. This is the most requested language for years. There is a Spanish community which is already very united, because there are places/regions where it is not always easy for Spanish/English bilingualism. The Spanish community is very united, they already translated a lot from the games of the game, external articles and other supports. I think that in addition it can also change the situation for those who have always been braked, because their level of English did not allow to play it, given the complexity, I really hope they can play it and discover the universe.

Jol: Suddenly, big Spanish delegation next year, at the Fanfest?

Camille: But that would be too good! Already we are doing a new thing for this fanfest by translating Keynote into 5 languages, which we had never d1. We had a channel stream by language for the live of the conference.

Jol: and Chinese location?

Camille: They take care of it themselves. They therefore have their own server and take care of the translation on their side. We have collaboration for performance, since the outings are simultaneous.

Jol: and therefore for the rest, it is you who oversee that. Including for other games, such as Eve Evening ?

Yes. After that depends on the evolution of these games. For example, we took care of Dust , Valkyrie, Spark .

Jol: With the new interface, that changes something for you, technical level?

Camille: No, we work with them in the same office. So we manage to work together. We manage bugs, etc.

Jol: Technical level, precisely, is it not complicated to match everything? For example, a sentence in English, French or Russian do not especially have the same number of characters.

Camille: We work with translators who are very strong! For example, the average in Russian is 30% longer than in English, it is really not easy to manage. You have to manage the marketing side with the number of characters, the interface bugs that it can cause in play, we discuss with the developer to calculate the size of the text window, all this is a big job of team. We work with trad agencies that are really specialized in the game.

Jol: do everything in 6 languages now!

Camille: Yes! It's been a lot of work but the community is so invested that it gives meaning to our work!

Jol: How long has you been working at CCP?

Camille: since 2014

Jol: And Tuas moved here for work?

Camille: Yes! I had been hired for the translation of Eve online in French and little by little we changed our way of working and we focused on project management rather than pure translation and now I manage all this aspect

Jol: Didn't that scare you, at the time, to move to Iceland?

Camille: A little, but I was fascinated by Iceland when I was a teenager, so when the opportunity arose, it happened very quickly. I didn’t imagine staying so long, but I told myself that it was an opportunity that I would never imagine and I’m too happy to have taken it. I apply for nationality this summer. I really like to live here!

Jol: Apart from CCP, there are many actors in Iceland who bring talents?

Camille: More and more! What is cool, there are more and more boxes that grow up, especially tech level. We have a lot of starters that settle here.

JOL: There is a lot of state aid to settle here?

Well, in fact it depends more on the boxes themselves than on the state. For example CCP provides moving, and they are not the only ones. It takes that to pass the fear of coming to go into the middle of the Atlantic. But since I arrived, there have been a lot of positive changes and it has progressed a lot.

Jol: What is the vision of the population on boxes like CCP, which bring their community for the Fanfest, bring talents etc. ?

#ForFunFestival2022 Launch in the Metaverse Camille: It's very well seen. CCP is one of the biggest boxes in the country, people are very admiring when you say you work there. We also work with local college, we talk a lot about us!

Jol: Are there a lot of French people in the team?

Camille: We are 2. There are not many French people, I don't know why. But we have people who came from everywhere, especially American, Germany, English and Icelandic. A little melting pot.

Jol: You don't manage communities Fr?

Camille: No, not really no. At the very beginning maybe, there I helped a little to have contact in French but that's it.

Jol: So, all the community aspect is no longer too internalized by CCP?

Camille: Not too much. We are very focused on the English and Russian community, where we have people on the spot to take care of them.

Jol: And after Spanish?

Camille: Well we'll see! The world is big!

Jol: And for Japanese, can you tell me a little?

Camille: It's great. They are not very numerous but they are super invested! They themselves organize their own small events. We don't have too much echo, in the West, they have their own microcosm, their own influencers, etc.

Jol: You already worked for video games before?

Camille: No, not at all. This is my first experience in video games and I am happy because that is what I was looking for, this creative side that I was missing in my previous experiences, this slightly foufou universe, and I am really very happy!

Jol: And how did you get to CCP?

Camille: By chance! I had friends who were playing Eve Online and I already wanted to go through the video game sector. And this opportunity arose, combined at the right time, I seized it and it was fairly quickly. Between the start of my research and the job, 2 months ago.

Jol: Not too difficult for the family?

No, it's not that far. 3:30 am by plane is still very accessible. More than ever. Everyone speaks English, Iceland, so it also facilitates integration into the country.

Jol: And to finish, something to add?

I invite all the former players, who played before but who were turned back by the difficulty of trying the experience. The redesign of the tutorial goes up a lot. For players who have stopped the game for a long time, it can be good too!
