How to Restart Steam: A Step-by-Step Guide

Lately, it seems that every two weeks the Steam digital games platform (predominantly on PC) has some problems with its software. This is not entirely surprising since Valve Corporation supplies more than 120 million players on average at any time in Steam. But whatever, one of the most common problems that affect users is that the application gets stuck while updating and then requires a restart, faces delays in peripherals or simply freezes and, therefore, stops work completely. In that case, it would be natural for users to begin to panic, which is where has it covered. So, for curious minds, here is like restarting steam.

How to go out and reopen the Steam application

The first way is quite simple, since it simply goes to the Steam drop-down menu and press out of Steam (or on the Mac leave Steam). With a little luck, Steam will do the same. However, if it does not close that way, it is possible that you should force it to do so through forcing out. On the PC, it is generally as simple as opening the task administrator and then performing some search and destruction. Therefore, first click CTL+ALT+DELETE to open the task administrator. Then, after finding the Steam application in the process list, click Finish task.

In the unlikely case that you have several versions of the application executing (for example, if you have 32 bits and 64 bits, running simultaneously), repeat the process also in them. Windows users will also want to find the Steam Client Bootstrapped application and do the same process. macOS users, on the other hand, will press the Apple button in the upper left corner and click on forcing departure.

How

Then, look for the Steam application and do the same. Finally, on any of the platforms, it is probably a good practice to erase the cache to avoid more technical setbacks. Then, go to the preferences/application configuration and navigate to the download section. From there, you will see an option to delete download cache and, hopefully, it will be clean. The application itself is always updating, so it is likely to have this problem. In that case, it is our hope that this guide helped you restart Steam.
